Health and Wellness Resources

  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA): PCIL’s newest program, Mental Health First Aid, is an early intervention public education program through the National Council for Mental Wellbeing. It teaches learners to recognize the signs and symptoms that suggest a potential mental health or substance use challenge, how to listen nonjudgmentally and give reassurance to a person who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge, and how to refer a person to appropriate support and services. Courses on learning how to work with the adult and youth population are now available through the Progressive Center for Independent Living.   • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): SNAP, commonly known as food stamps, is a federal program that helps low-income individuals and families purchase nutritious food. PCIL has assisted consumers in becoming eligible for SNAP, which has had a profound impact on their quality of life. For example, one individual shared how being approved for SNAP changed his life, stating that he was finally able to eat decent food again. This program ensures that individuals have access to basic necessities, fostering better health and independence.


  • Mercer County Specific Resources:

    • Creative Change Counseling (https://www.creativechangeinc.org/): A non-profit organization that provides mental and behavioral health services in New Jersey and serves individuals struggling with mild to severe emotional, psychological, behavioral, and substance abuse challenges.

    • NAMI Mercer (https://namimercer.org/): The National Alliance on Mental Illness, located in Hamilton, NJ, listens, leads, educates, and advocates, empowering families and individuals affected by mental illness to build lives of quality and respect, free of stigma and discrimination.
